An orphanage in Kiambu District, Nairobi, Kenya
The idea to start a Centre was conceived by teachers of the Gathaithi Primary School, after realizing that there were several children who were unable to concentrate in school work for lack of very basic necessities of life i.e food, shelter and clothing.
The Current Centre
The facility Gathaithi currently uses has dormitories for the 40 residential children, a kitchen, and a dining hall. They also have a small primary school.
Source of their Funding
Financial Support comes from Committee members, community churches, self-helps groups and Lift the children. They also receive funding from the government.
Areas of Endeavor
The Gathaithi centre supports their children by providing them with necessary food, clothing, shelter, educational support and health care.
Challenges they face are providing the necessary secondary school fees for the older children, as well as acquiring materials for possible development and sustainability projects.
