An orphanage in Langata District, Nairobi, Kenya
The Founders/Director
Pamela Owino has a passion for loving and caring for neglected children. She had two orphans in her care when she was able to open the Paradise community centre to help care for the
needy children in the Kibera slums and from the street. She believes every child deserves a little paradise.
The Current Centre
The centre is located within Kibera slums in a muddy 4 roomed house which accommodates the 40 residential children. The 4 rooms include a bed room for the children, Kitchen, living room and Pamela’s bed room.
Source of their Funding
Lift the Children is the only source of ongoing financial support. Money is also received from occasional well-wishers.
Areas of Endeavor
Paradise Community Centre provides the children it serves with food, shelter, educational support, guidance and counseling. As well they provide small vocational training such as bead works, matt making and hairdressing.
Present Challenges
The biggest challenge they face is a lack of space to house more children comfortably. They also struggle with inadequate supplies of food, medical support and play materials.
