An orphanage in Kasarani District, Nairobi, Kenya
The Founders: Elizabeth Mwangi
The home was founded by Mrs. Elizabeth Wanjiku Mwangi. She is a widow who has three sons. When her sons were young she felt inspired by God to help play an active role in alleviating the suffering of needy children in the community.
The Current Centre
The buildings are mostly semi-permanent. There is a kitchen, a dining/recreation room and two dormitories, one for boys and one for girls. There are also three classrooms, one of which is permanent. The home also has a greenhouse.
Source of their Funding
The home receives financial support from families in Canada and from local well wishers. They are also involved in some farming activity and occasional fundraisers.
Areas of Endeavor
At Christ Cares they strive to give the children as complete care as possible. In addition to feeding, clothing, and providing shelter, an education, and medical care, the children receive spiritual guidance and counseling.
They have a strong desire to provide services for more children. There is also a need for a classroom for next year.
